Amazing Grace

I wrote the following post a couple years back with scriptures outlining the song, This is Amazing Grace, by Phil Wickham with bible scriptures. I came across it last week, and it is just what I needed to be reminded of. I fall short. I mess up. I doubt the goodness of God. I get frustrated with myself. The list can go on and on, and then I try to fix it all myself. If I just pray more. If I just read my bible more. If I just do (fill in the blank) of whatever you think you need to do to earn God's grace or forgiveness. I just need to be honest with myself and with my God. He is there. He listens. He already knows. He forgives not because of anything I do, but because of who He truly is & the sacrifice He took on for me. This my friends is the true depth of amazing grace.

Who breaks the power of sin and darkness

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of our God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." -Romans 6:23

Whose love is mighty and so much stronger

"For God so loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world that He might condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him." -John 3:16-17

The King of Glory, the King above all kings

"Lord our Lord how magnificent is Your name throughout the earth!" -Psalm 8:1

Who shakes the whole earth with holy thunder

"The Lord reigns! Let the peoples tremble. He is enthroned about the cherubim. Let the earth quake." -Psalm 99:1

And leaves us breathless in awe and wonder

"Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand or marked off the heavens with the span of his hand? Who has gathered the dust of the earth in a measure or weighed the mountains in balance and the hills in scale? Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord, or who gave Him His counsel?" -Isaiah 4-:12-13

The King of Glory, the King above all kings

This is amazing grace

"But when the goodness and love for man appeared from God our savior, He saved us--not by works of righteousness that we had done, but according to His mercy, through the washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit. This Spirit He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that having been justified by His grace, we may become heirs with the hope of eternal life." -Titus 3:4-7

This is unfailing love

"But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us!" -Romans 5:8

That You would take my place

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." -Romans 3:23

That You would bear my cross

"But He was pierced because of our transgressions, crushed because of our iniquities; punishment for our peace was on Him, and we are healed by His wounds." -Isaiah 53:5

You lay down Your life

"I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep." -John 10:11

That I would be set free

"It is I who sweep away your transgressions for My own sake and remember your sins no more." -Isaiah 43:25

Oh, Jesus, I sing for

"I will rejoice and boast about You; I will sing about Your name, Most High." -Psalm 9:2

All that You've done for me

"He has rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins." -Colossians 1:13-14

Who brings our chaos back into order

"I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world." -John 16:33

Who makes the orphan a son and daughter

"A father of the fatherless and a champion of widows is God in His holy dwelling place." -Psalm 68:5

The King of Glory, the King of Glory

Who rules the nations with truth and justice

"Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; faithful love and truth go before you." -Psalm 89:14

Shines like the sun in all of its brilliance

"As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world." -John 9:5

The King of Glory, the King above all kings

"Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth and the world from eternity to eternity, You are God." -Psalm 90:2

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain

"Our Lord and God, You are worthy to receive glory and honor and power, because You have created all things, and because of Your will they exist and were created." -Revelation 4:11

Worthy is the King who conquered the grave

"Don't be afraid! I am the First and the Last, and the Living One. I was dead, but look- I am alive forever and ever, and I hold the keys of death and Hades." -Revelation 1:17b-18

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain

"The Lamb who was slaughtered is worthy to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing." Revelation 5:12

Worthy is the King who conquered the grave

"My lips will glorify You because your faithful love is better than life." -Psalm 63:3

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain

"I will sing about the Lord's faithful love forever; with my mouth I will proclaim Your faithfulness to all generations." -Psalm 89:1

Worthy is the King who conquered the grave

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain

Worthy, worthy, worthy
